Why Attend?
Windrush Day is a national day of recognition, established to honour the Windrush generation — the thousands of men, women, and children who arrived in the UK from the Caribbean between 1948 and 1971 to help rebuild post-war Britain. Their contributions have shaped modern British society, from public services to arts, culture, and beyond.
Celebrated every year on 22 June, Windrush Day is an opportunity to reflect on their legacy, acknowledge injustices, and celebrate the achievements of the African-Caribbean community across generations.
This local event at Hendon Library offers a meaningful way to connect with that legacy through personal stories, creative workshops, and conversations that bring history to life. Whether you want to listen, learn, create, or simply be part of a welcoming community space, there’s something for everyone.

Can’t make it on the day?
The Windrush photo exhibition will remain on display at Hendon Library for one week after the event – so there’s still time to explore the powerful stories and images if you miss the celebration on 22 June.
Organised by CB Plus, Middlesex University, Heritage Community Crafts, and Barnet Libraries. Supported by Barnet Council through the Connecting Communities grant.
