What is it?

We designed the Being Me project to raise awareness and support Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) students in understanding eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors. We developed this initiative in collaboration with BNU, which includes two key elements: an e-learning module for staff and the ‘Being Me’ society for students. Moreover, we equip staff with knowledge to identify and address disordered eating, while the society empowers students to access resources and recognise disordered eating behaviors early.

This project focuses on:

  • Raising awareness of disordered eating behaviors that are often overlooked or misunderstood.

  • Supporting underrepresented groups who may not seek help through traditional services.

  • Building a community through the ‘Being Me’ society, where students can access support and share experiences.

Target Audience:

This project is tailored for:

  • Young men who may not traditionally engage with eating disorder services.

  • Non-binary young adults, particularly those facing challenges with body image.

  • Black young adults, whose experiences with eating disorders are often underrepresented.

  • Individuals with bulimia, binge eating disorder, or a history of dieting.

  • International students, specifically, with a focus on Mandarin-speaking students, to ensure cultural sensitivity and accessibility

Where does it run?

  • Buckinghamshire New University
