Every year on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of gender equality and the work still needed to achieve it. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women, challenge stereotypes, and take action toward a more inclusive world. The theme for IWD 2025, Accelerate Action, calls on individuals and organisations alike to push forward with meaningful steps that drive gender equality.

Voices of Change at CB Plus

Gender equality isn’t just a goal, it’s an ongoing effort that requires action from everyone. Our leaders are actively challenging outdated stereotypes, advocating for inclusive workplace policies, and empowering women and girls to pursue their ambitions. This year, we hear from the inspiring women leading the way at CB Plus as they share their perspectives on how we can all contribute to making gender equality a reality:

Helen Harte, Director of Operations, highlights the importance of shaping attitudes from an early age:
“We should all challenge gender stereotypes in everyday conversations and decisions and teach children that careers are about skill, not gender.”

From the very beginning of life, gender equality must be embedded in our values, as Zoe Kattah, Director of Young People’s Wellbeing, explains:
“Gender equality is everybody’s business. It starts from conception. Women and girls should be recognised and valued as individuals who have the strength, intelligence, and instinct to aspire and make decisions that will positively impact them and future generations.”

A key component of achieving equality is ensuring that workplaces provide the support women need to thrive. Sian Avery, Operations Manager, stresses the need for change in employment policies:
“Employers should offer flexible and family-friendly working policies to support women to remain in the workforce and progress without having to choose between work and family.”

These insights serve as a reminder that gender equality is not just about policies it’s about everyday actions, conversations, and commitments that pave the way for lasting change.

How We Can All Accelerate Action

Gender equality isn’t something that happens overnight; it requires collective effort. Here are some ways we can all contribute to creating a fairer, more inclusive world:

  • Challenge stereotypes: Whether at home, in the workplace, or in everyday conversations, question outdated gender roles and advocate for equal opportunities.
  • Uplift women’s voices: Celebrate the achievements of women in your community, amplify their perspectives, and ensure they have a seat at the table.
  • Mentor and advocate: If you’re in a position of influence, use it to support the next generation of female leaders.
  • Call out inequality: Don’t stay silent when you witness gender bias or discrimination speaking up can make a difference.
