Volunteers’ Week 2025 runs from the 2nd to the 8th of June. It is a national celebration recognising the invaluable contribution of volunteers across the UK. At CB Plus, we’re proud to highlight the dedicated individuals behind our Barnet Friends befriending service, who offer vital companionship and emotional support to adults aged 18–55 experiencing loneliness in Barnet.

Making a Difference, One Phone Call at a Time

Our Barnet Friends volunteers generously give their time each week to make telephone calls that offer far more than just conversation. These calls provide:

  • Emotional support

  • Friendly companionship

  • Kindness and encouragement

  • Signposting to local wellbeing services

For many of our clients, their weekly call with a Barnet Friends Befriender is their only meaningful interaction, making them a lifeline during difficult times.

Volunteer Impact in 2024–25

Over the past year, our volunteers gave an incredible 592 hours of their time to support service users through regular phone calls. They also helped 43 people access further support, signposting them to services including:

  • Citizens Advice Barnet

  • NHS Talking Therapies

  • Local exercise classes

  • Peer support cafés

To all our volunteers: thank you. Your compassion, commitment, and care make a lasting difference in the lives of others!

Hear from One of Our Befrienders:

“I really love volunteering with Barnet Friends. I was matched with my first client in January after thorough training. I’ve built a lovely relationship with her. She’s really opened up to me, and it’s been so rewarding to see her progress over the months. We also have monthly supervision and a team of very supportive staff at Barnet Friends that we can contact at any time, should we have any concerns.”
