After more than 12 years of expanding a single-borough infrastructure organisation into a multi-area support network for the voluntary sector, Julie Pal will step down as Chief Executive Officer of CB Plus (formally CommUNITY Barnet) this September.
When Julie first took the helm, CB Plus served just one borough. Today, it’s a nationally recognised organisation supporting voluntary and community services across multiple London areas – growth that has strengthened the capital’s charitable infrastructure and earned widespread recognition.
“What I’m most proud of is how we’ve helped build a stronger foundation for the voluntary sector by engaging directly with residents,” Julie reflects. “We’ve gone from supporting charities in one area to creating networks that empower organisations across multiple boroughs to thrive. It’s been an honour to be part of that journey.”

Julie’s decision comes at a crucial time for the sector. With charities facing increasing pressures around funding and capacity, she believes fresh leadership can bring new perspectives to these challenges. “After 12 rewarding years, I believe we need someone who can guide CB Plus through its next phase of development alongside the excellent Board of Trustees,” she explains. “The organisation is strong and well-positioned to embrace new and emerging opportunities. It is the right time for that transition.”
Julie’s departure leaves significant experience to replace – something Board Chair Tony Vardy acknowledges with both gratitude and optimism. “Julie has been exceptional in developing our reach and impact across London’s voluntary and community sector. Whilst we’re very sorry to lose her, we’re excited about finding someone who can continue building on this strong foundation, to take CB Plus through the next phase of our development.”
The search for Julie’s successor begins immediately, with the organisation seeking a leader who can continue strengthening London’s voluntary and community sector infrastructure.
