Case Study: From Despair to Empowerment: How the Barnet Wellbeing Hub Saved a Life
Background
The service user presented at the Hub with very low self-esteem and social anxiety. She was feeling suicidal and thought there was no point in carrying on. The navigator quickly contacted the service user’s GP and informed them of the situation, and the GP acted immediately to offer an appointment on the same day.
Challenges
The service user was struggling with low self-esteem and social anxiety, which affected her mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, her suicidal thoughts made it challenging to provide her with the necessary support and care.
Solutions
After seeing her GP, the service user returned to the Wellbeing Hub feeling more stable. She was signposted to the Wellbeing Workshops to learn more about common factors affecting her wellbeing and build her confidence to share with others who may have experienced similar symptoms. The service user also registered for a life coaching course on building confidence and self-esteem to explore volunteering opportunities before finding part-time employment.
Results
Thanks to the support she received from the Wellbeing Hub, the service user-built her confidence and self-esteem. She participated in the Wellbeing Workshops and registered for a life coaching course, which helped her to improve her mental health and overall wellbeing. As a result, the service user felt less isolated and depressed and was grateful for the support she received from the Wellbeing Hub.

This case study demonstrates the importance of providing mental health support to individuals with low self-esteem and social anxiety.
